BBA公园义工活动 THIS IS OUR PARK
2026年7月12日，繁荣布碌仑协会（Better Brooklyn Association，简称 BBA）联合市议员庄文怡（Susan Zhuang）办公室、纽约市公园局以及第49选区地区领袖谢晓琼（Joyce Xie），在布碌仑彩虹公园（Rainbow Playground）继续深入开展社区清洁志愿服务活动。
彩虹公园地处8大道核心区域，是周边众多亚裔民众日常休闲、健身、运动以及儿童玩乐的核心场所。当天的活动吸引了40多名青少年志愿者、多位成人义工以及多组华人家庭的积极响应与参与。尽管时值盛夏、烈日炎炎，但大小志愿者们的服务热情丝毫不减。孩子们手持清洁工具，分工明确，认真细致地捡拾落叶纸屑、清理死角杂物，用辛勤的汗水换来了公园焕然一新的整洁面貌。
繁荣布碌仑协会（BBA）在活动中向所有在酷暑中到场支持的义工和家庭表达了诚挚的感谢。BBA主席黄启旺表示：“8大道是我家，美化靠大家。社区环境的每一步改善，都离不开居民们的亲身参与和共同维护。”
第49选区地区领袖谢晓琼在致辞中则进一步强调了居民积极参与社区事务并勇于发声的重要性。谢晓琼指出，只有真正走出家门、切身投入到社区活动中，大家才能敏锐地发现身边那些容易被忽视的隐患与痛点。她举例道，正如大家今天亲自来到彩虹公园做清洁，才会直观地注意到这个公园虽然人流量巨大，却面临着没有公共厕所的尴尬局面；而作为高频使用的篮球场，其地面其实已经出现多处开裂，极易导致玩耍的小朋友被绊倒摔伤。
谢晓琼呼吁，只有大家广泛参与、积极发声，才能将这些社区第一线的真实诉求系统地汇总并反映出来，进而推动像公园局这样的核心市政部门真正了解社区的现状与亟待解决的问题，从而为亚裔社区争取到更多的资源和改善。
本次清洁行动不仅还社区公园一个整洁面貌，更在参与者中传播了公共参与、为社区发声的种子，展现了布碌仑社区强大的凝聚力。

Leif Ericson Park 北端的公园虽然相对偏离亚裔集中的8大道与戴克高地一带，但也是许多亚裔民众生活、休息、锻炼与体育活动的重要场所，
本次活动吸引了20多名的小朋友义工及多名成人义工以及多组华人家庭积极参与，共同为打造清洁、绿色的社区环境贡献力量。
尽管当日天气炎热，但大小志愿者们热情不减。孩子们手拿工具，认真细致地捡拾垃圾、清理杂物，用汗水换来公园的整洁面貌。
繁荣布碌仑协会（BBA）表示，特别感谢所有在酷暑中到场支持的义工和家庭。社区的每一次改变，都离不开民众们的亲身参与。未来，BBA将继续与民选代表办公室及公园局合作，继续开展公园清洁活动，期待与大家下次活动再见！
On July 12, 2026, the Better Brooklyn Association (BBA), in partnership with the Office of Council Member Susan Zhuang, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and Joyce Xie, District Leader of the 49th Assembly District, continued its community park cleanup volunteer initiative at Rainbow Playground in Brooklyn.
Located in the heart of the Eighth Avenue area, Rainbow Playground is an important destination where many local Asian residents gather for recreation, exercise, sports, and children’s activities. The event attracted more than 40 youth volunteers, several adult volunteers, and numerous Chinese American families.
Despite the intense summer heat and strong sunshine, the volunteers remained enthusiastic and dedicated. Equipped with cleaning tools and assigned to different tasks, the young volunteers carefully picked up fallen leaves, paper, and other litter while clearing debris from overlooked corners of the park. Their hard work and effort gave the playground a noticeably cleaner and refreshed appearance.
During the event, the Better Brooklyn Association expressed its sincere appreciation to all the volunteers and families who came out to support the initiative despite the extreme heat. BBA President Huang Qiwang stated, “Eighth Avenue is our home, and it takes all of us to keep it beautiful. Every improvement in our community environment depends on the active participation and shared responsibility of local residents.”
In her remarks, Joyce Xie, District Leader of the 49th Assembly District, further emphasized the importance of residents actively participating in community affairs and speaking up about local concerns.
Xie explained that only by leaving their homes and becoming directly involved in community activities can residents identify problems and safety concerns that may otherwise be easily overlooked. She noted that by personally participating in the cleanup at Rainbow Playground, volunteers were able to observe that, despite the park’s extremely high number of visitors, it does not have a public restroom. They also noticed that the heavily used basketball court has developed multiple cracks in its surface, creating a serious tripping and injury risk for children playing there.
Xie called on residents to participate widely and make their voices heard. Only through active community involvement can these firsthand concerns be collected, organized, and communicated effectively. This will help important municipal agencies, such as the Parks Department, better understand the community’s current conditions and urgent needs, while supporting efforts to secure additional resources and improvements for the Asian American community.
The cleanup initiative not only restored a clean and welcoming appearance to the neighborhood park, but also encouraged participants to become more civically engaged and advocate for their community. The event demonstrated the strength, unity, and community spirit of Brooklyn residents.
On June 14, 2026, the Better Brooklyn Association (BBA), in partnership with the Office of Council Member Susan Zhuang, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, and Joyce Xie, District Leader of the 49th Assembly District, continued its community cleanup volunteer initiative at the park located at the northern end of Leif Ericson Park in Brooklyn.
Although the northern section of Leif Ericson Park is located farther away from the Asian-populated areas around Eighth Avenue and Dyker Heights, it remains an important place where many Asian residents gather for recreation, relaxation, exercise, and sports.
The event attracted more than 20 young volunteers, several adult volunteers, and numerous Chinese American families, who worked together to help create a cleaner and greener community environment.
Despite the hot weather, volunteers of all ages remained enthusiastic. The children used cleaning tools to carefully pick up litter and remove debris, contributing their time and effort to restore the park’s clean and welcoming appearance.
The Better Brooklyn Association expressed its special appreciation to all the volunteers and families who came out to support the event in the summer heat. Every positive change in the community depends on the direct participation of its residents.
In the future, BBA will continue working with elected officials’ offices and the New York City Parks Department to organize additional park cleanup events. BBA looks forward to seeing everyone again at the next community activity.
